SAM Sophia Ann Miller Home Prints Paintings Other About |
I am an artist creating collage and figurative works primarily using printmaking and oil paint. The subjects in my works are those who I have an emotional connection with, and my pieces reflect that human interconnection. I draw inspiration from people and things around me that I feel a certain way about, and then describe that connection through my art. I am influenced by neoclassical painter Francisco Goya’s studies of the human experience and form, and contemporary printmaker Yoshua Klos who pushes the bounds of multimedia figurative art and abstraction today. I was born and raised in the East Bay Area and am currently based in Sonoma County. I care greatly about my relationships with people in my past and present, and I strive to show that seemingly universal sentiment through my art. My art reflects my feelings and experiences of these personal relationships through the figures and the objects I depict. People and objects are repeated or abstracted in scenes that flow with personal consciousness. Symbolic objects and motifs are repeated amongst my work, to mirror the layers and process of thought and emotion. The time I take studying the individual subjects while creating my pieces is a time of reflection and healing. By expressing my own sentiments, my art reaches out to the viewer from a place of vulnerability, encouraging a space for one's own personaly reflection in the context of my art. My working process for creating art begins with thinking about people, items, and experiences that are significant to me. I source photographs from my private collection depicting these personal motifs. Studying the image of a person or thing, or by consciously abstracting their form makes my work deeply personal. I am influenced by classical and contemporary artists, to create personalized work using conceptual and technical knowledge. My passion for sharing my creative techniques and providing an outlet for introspection has inspired me to further the practice and knowledge of art through showing my art and educating others. I believe all art is personal to the maker and contributes to the greater art world. As an artist, I seek to exhibit and teach this concept. |
